PostSubject: Ways to Say "Thank You"   Wed Sep 30, 2009 4:49 am

ありがとう - Arigatou (basic "thank you")
ありがとうございます - Arigatou gozaimasu (most common version of "thank you very much")
どうも - Doumo (a powerful word that can mean more than just "thanks")
どうもありがとう - Doumo arigatou (you almost never hear this outside of the Styx song)
どうもありがとうございます - Doumo arigatou gozaimasu (extremely polite)
どうも恐縮です - Doumo kyoushuku desu (my students this year told me this is a really old way of saying "much obliged")
すみません - Sumimasen (lit. means "won't do" or "begs to be excused", and of course refers to yourself. You mainly use it when someone has done something for you that they had no choice but to do.)
お疲れ様 or お疲れ様でした - Otsukaresama, ""deshita (Good work/thank you. Lit. means "that must have been tiring")
ご苦労 or ご苦労様 or ご苦労様でした - Gokurou, ""sama, """"deshita (same as above, only a little stronger. 苦労 means a hardship or ordeal.)
御礼申し上げます- Orei moushiagemasu (lit. I would like to say a word of thanks. Both "say" and "word of thanks" are in extremely polite form here.)
忝い - Katajikenai (means "I am grateful")

If I think of more, I'll put them up.

I never knew there were so many ways lol

Do you think you can put it in Romaji as well, for our non-readable members?

Done. I figured I'd take the kana out if I'm going to put everything in Romaji.
